This year we will keep the Feast of St. Michael and All Angels with a special celebration of the Holy Eucharist, which will also serve as the occasion for blessing our new icon.

The Feast of St. Michael and All Angels, celebrated each year on September 29, honors the mysterious company of angels who worship and serve the Lord, and in particular the Archangel Michael, defender of the faithful and protector of the Church. This day lifts our eyes to the unseen realm of God’s glory, where angels and archangels join their voices in eternal praise and where heaven’s victory over evil is made known.

St. John’s has commissioned a new icon of St. Michael slaying the serpent. This icon has been prayerfully written to mark the calling of the Rev. Tom Early as the fifth rector of St. John’s by the Campus.

This ancient image portrays St. Michael the Archangel, sword in hand, triumphing over the serpent—the great symbol of evil. It is an icon of strength, protection, and hope: a reminder that God’s power is greater than any darkness, and that the heavenly host stands guard with us in the battle for truth and love. The icon will be installed in our chapel, a space for prayer and contemplation, and a sign of God’s victory and presence in our midst.

Please join us for this feast day celebration. Together, we will give thanks for the ministry of angels, bless the new icon, and lift our hearts with all the company of heaven in praise of God’s glory. All are welcome.
